This product is being phased out. Call for Availability and Lead Time for Volume Orders.

The AMD Geode LX800 CPU featured on this system will EOL in 2015.  For this reason we highly recommend you purchase the SG-2220 or SG-2440 system from the pfSense store, or the RCC-DFF 2220 or RCC-VE 2440 instead, which is the advanced follow on modern multi-core replacement CPU/system with Gigabit ethernet NICs.

Software Features:

The m1n1wall arrives pre-loaded with pfSense software.

pfSense is a free, open source firewall and router platform based on NanoBSD / FreeBSD that includes most all of the features of expensive, commercial firewalls. This next generation pfSense stateful firewall for embedded applications supports:

  • In place upgrades. No need to disassemble your system in order to upgrade, patch or add packages to your CF.
  • Multiple firmware support. Two partitions on the CF, each with their own separate pfSense install means you can test upgrades and rollbacks without impacting your production environment.
  • Ports and package support. FreeBSD packages that are suitable for an embedded platform can be installed and used.

pfSense provides a software packaging system which allows for the extension of functionality beyond its extensive core feature set. Core features include:

  • Stateful firewall based on OpenBSD pf
  • Captive portal with MAC filtering, RADIUS support, etc.
  • NAT support
  • Load balancing
  • VPN: IPsec, OpenVPN, PPTP
  • Dynamic DNS client
  • DHCP Server and Relay functions
  • PPPoE Server
  • Reporting and monitoring features with real time information

Appliance does not include:

  • Null modem cable to connect to the serial console, if needed. Use 115200,n,8,1 with putty, hyperterminal or other console program.
  • Cat 5 ethernet cables to connect to your network
  • Add-on ALIX wireless kits
  • VPN1411 accelerator card

Additional information:

  • EOL Note: The AMD Geode LX800 CPU featured on this system will EOL sometime in 2015.  For this reason we highly recommend you purchase the APU2 or APU4 system instead, which is the follow on modern multi-core replacement CPU/system with Gigabit ethernet NICs.
  • pfSense Quick Start Guide
  • General pfSense information
  • ALIX 2/3 board User Manual
  • RoHS Compliant.
  • pfSense version: pfSense 2.2 began shipping 1/26/2015. pfSense 2.1.3 began shipping 5/3/2014.  If you are running an older version, please update to pfSense 2.1.2 or higher to fix the heartbleed bug (CVE-2014-0160).

Great Product
This is a great product. I have been working with these for several years. PF sense is a great product as well. We run Alpine Linux and it is fantastic!

Very Reliable
We have about 50 Alix boards deployed on anything from 3G WAN connections to 100mb/s connections. We have utilized the devices with PFsense, acting as BGP routers, OPENvpn end points, WAPs, and dedicated firewalls. They work great, so far our only failure was a physical NIC port was damaged, which I believe was caused by a technician.

Really great
We use one of these guys at each of our satellite locations. These are the most reliable little buggers I have ever worked with. Unless more speed is required, these are perfect for the basics.

Just flat out love it!
A netgate m1n1 with pfsense is a dream come true. I have 3 in production so far, and as long as netgate keeps making these, I plan to never buy another brand again. As my client's routers die, I plan to replace all with these. I love how I can piece together exactly what I need. This router will be heavy on VPN, so I add the VPN accelerator, this one needs WIFI, so I add the WIFI card. All that plus reliability I have yet to see in any other router and dual wan, what else do you want?

Excelllent small-medium firewall-router
I already had 2 of these, just received another 8. They all work straight out of the box. Great for small to medium size networks. In remote places and where power is a problem these are a great solution - low power, easy installation.
